Mealwise stores everything on your device. We don't require an account and we never sell your data.
Overview
Mealwise is a meal planning and shopping list app made by Scotford Studios. This policy explains what data we collect and how it is used.
Data stored on your device only
All meal plans, recipes, ingredients, shopping lists, cupboard items and settings you create in Mealwise are stored on your device. This data is never transmitted to us or any third party. If you delete the app, this data is permanently removed unless you have made a backup.
If you choose to add photos to your meals, these are also stored locally on your device only.
Backups
You can back up your Mealwise data from Settings. A backup is a single file containing your meals, ingredients, meal plans, shopping list, cupboard items, settings, and any photos you added. Mealwise creates this file on your device and opens your device's share sheet; you choose where it goes, for example the Files app, iCloud Drive, AirDrop, or an email to yourself.
Backups are never sent to us. Once you save or send a backup somewhere, it is stored by that service under its own privacy terms. The file is not encrypted, so keep it somewhere you trust.
Restoring a backup reads the file you choose and replaces the data in the app. Nothing is uploaded.
App updates
Mealwise checks for app updates when it opens and from time to time while it is in use. These checks go to Expo (expo.dev), the service that delivers Mealwise updates. Like any internet request, a check reveals your device's IP address, along with your device platform and the app version you have. They contain none of your meals, lists, or other data. You can review Expo's privacy policy at expo.dev/privacy.
Importing recipes
If you import a recipe from a web address, Mealwise downloads that page directly from the website you entered. The website will see an ordinary request from your device, as it would in a web browser.
What we don't collect
- We do not require you to create an account
- We do not collect your name, email address, or any contact information
- We do not use advertising, analytics, crash reporting, or tracking
- We do not sell or share your data with third parties
Children's privacy
Mealwise does not knowingly collect any data from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy occasionally. Any changes will be posted at this URL.
